Beautiful Shoes, Beautiful You
Shopping for a beautiful pair of shoes can be fun, but it can be a bewildering experience if you don’t know which types flatter your body. If you know what to look for, however, your shoes can make you look more beautiful. Here are some tips for choosing between popular styles of womens shoes.
Ballet Flats
Women with any body shape can wear ballet flats with trousers. When paired with dresses or skirts, however, short women should opt for short outfits that end above the knee and flats with pointy toes.
Heels
Heels give the illusion of height, but very petite women appear unbalanced in extremely high platform heels and stilettos. Short, heavy legs look longer in high-heeled shoes with low-cut toes.
Mules
Mules visually interrupt the line of the foot, so avoid them if you have short, heavy legs.
Pointy-toed shoes
Extreme points on shoes add a few shoe sizes to the foot’s length. This makes short legs appear longer, but those with large feet should choose rounded toes.
Ankle straps
Flattering to slender ankles, these straps highlight the girth of wide ankles.
Gladiator sandals
Long legs look sexy in gladiators, but the sandals come up too high on short legs, giving an unflattering Roman-warrior look.
Boots
Full-length, high-heeled boots make short legs appear longer and leaner. Short boots make thick ankles look wider but give tall, thin legs a muscular, athletic look.
Embellishments
Bows, buckles, ties and other adornments worn at the toe make a long foot appear shorter.
Colour
Matching your shoe colour to your skin tone or to the colour of your tights gives the illusion of longer legs. When wearing boots, matching the boot to the colour of your skirt or dress gives a long, unbroken line, making short women appear taller and thinner.
